How It Works

When an email arrives in your inbox, Dume.ai’s Email Triage system:

Analyzes the Email

Dume.ai reads the email’s subject, content, sender, and context to understand its purpose and importance.

Determines the Best Label

Using advanced AI, it matches the email against 19 predefined categories or your existing custom labels to find the perfect fit.

Applies the Label Automatically

The system either uses an existing label from your email client or creates a new one from the taxonomy, keeping everything organized.

Keeps Learning

Over time, Email Triage adapts to your preferences and labeling patterns for even better accuracy.

Email Categories

Dume.ai uses a comprehensive taxonomy to categorize your emails. Here are the available labels:

Personal

Personal one-to-one messages from friends, family, or acquaintances not tied to work, finance, or promotions.

Family/Friends

Personal messages specifically from close family or friends about personal matters or plans.

Social/Media

Notifications from social media platforms such as friend requests, comments, or mentions.

Events/Invitations

Invitations or announcements for social, community, or non-work events.

Work/Projects

Emails related to ongoing work, tasks, deliverables, or collaboration on projects.

Work/Meetings

Meeting invitations, confirmations, scheduling updates, or summaries for work-related events.

Requests/Action Required

Emails asking for explicit action such as approval, response, or document submission.

Purchases/Receipts

Purchase confirmations, order receipts, or invoices for completed transactions.

Deliveries/Shipping

Shipment notifications, tracking updates, or delivery confirmations for ordered items.

Bills/Finance

Recurring bills, payment due notices, or financial statements requiring payment or review.

Banking/Payments

Bank account notifications, payment confirmations, refunds, or transaction alerts.

Travel/Itinerary

Flight, hotel, or transportation bookings, itineraries, or travel-related confirmations.

Appointments/Healthcare

Medical, dental, or professional appointment reminders, confirmations, or results.

Promotions/Offers

Commercial advertising, discounts, coupons, or sale promotions intended to encourage purchases.

Newsletters/Subscriptions

Regular informational or content-based subscription emails not focused on sales.

Spam/Junk

Unsolicited, irrelevant, or suspicious emails including obvious spam and phishing attempts.

Other/Uncategorized

Emails that do not fit any of the above categories; used only as a fallback.

Getting Started

Email Triage is automatically enabled when you connect your email account—no setup required! Here’s how to verify it’s working:

Connect Your Email

Connect your Gmail or other email account to Dume.ai from the Integrations page.Gmail Integration
Email Triage is now automatically active and will begin labeling new incoming emails.

Check your email inbox after a few minutes. New emails should have labels applied automatically based on their content and context.

Review the labels applied to ensure they match your expectations. The AI learns from your email patterns over time for better accuracy.

How to Disable Email Triage

If you prefer to manage your inbox manually or want to pause Email Triage temporarily:

Navigate to System Workflows

Go to the Workflows page in Dume.ai and select the System Workflows tab.

Find Email Triage

Locate the Email Triage workflow in the list of system workflows.

Toggle Off

Click the toggle switch or Disable button to turn off automatic email labeling.

Confirm

Your emails will no longer be automatically labeled. You can re-enable it anytime by following the same steps and toggling it back on.
When you disable Email Triage, new incoming emails will not be automatically labeled. Previously labeled emails will keep their labels.
